Top 3 Online Video Poker Casinos in South Africa for 2026

In 2026, South Africans have the advantage of using credible casinos offering ZAR as currency, fast payments, and large collections of video poker games supplied by software developers such as RTG, Nucleus, and many others. Although online gambling in casinos runs in a regulated grey zone (online sports betting is legalized), legitimate online casinos with proper licensing and reliable security still work great.

Here are our experts’ recommendations for the Top 3 video poker casinos in South Africa.

1. Springbok Casino

Springbok Casino has won over the local audience by focusing on their needs and offering one of the biggest libraries of video poker slots in the country.

• Extensive library including Jacks or Better, Bonus Deuces Wild, Double Double Bonus, Aces and Eights, All American Poker, and more — many in single and multi-hand formats.
• High RTP variants that reward skilled play.
• User-friendly interface with smooth mobile play (no download required for most games).
• Generous welcome offers, including no-deposit bonuses that work well on video poker.
• Reliable ZAR banking with fast withdrawals via popular local methods.

Springbok is a site with an international level of service while having the feel of a local casino. Great if you need variety but don't want to switch the site.

3. Punt Casino

Punt is offering its famous casino service along with a decent number of video poker slots developed by Evolution.

It's the obvious choice for players combining sports and casino action.

How to Choose the Right Video Poker Casino

• Games and Payouts: Choose full pay game variations such as 9/6 Jacks or Better for optimal value.
• Bonuses: Review contribution percentage because video poker typically makes a lower contribution compared to slot machines.
• Payment Options: Go for instant ZAR payment methods including EFT, Ozow or vouchers.
• Mobile Gaming: The best casinos are mobile friendly and you should try playing in demo versions.
• Licensing and Player Safety: Play at casinos that have proper license and a good player reputation.

How to Win at Video Poker

While there is now failsafe way to win at online poker, there are ways to give yourself the best chance of winning over time.

These ways can be found in a combination of the two factors mentioned in the section above. One is much easier than the other, namely only playing video poker slots with the most advantageous RTP%.

Far more difficult to execute is playing each hand in the mathematically optimal manner. However, players of all levels can improve their chance of earning payouts on each hand by taking the time to consider how probable it is they can improve their hand according to the poker-hand rankings.

Types of Video Poker

As mentioned above, there are many different types of video poker slots. Listed below are four of the most popular varieties played in SA online casinos:

Jacks or Better

Jacks or Better is pretty straightforward. It's based on 5 card draw. You're dealt 5 cards, you get to choose which ones to keep and which ones to throw away, and then you get paid off based on the poker hand ranking of your end result. The lowest-paying hand is a pair of jacks or higher. A pair of tens or less doesn't pay out anything. The highest-paying hand is a royal flush, which pays off at 800 to 1 if you bet 5 coins per hand. (If you bet 4 coins or fewer, it only pays out 250 to 1, so always play max coins.)

Deuces Wild

The 2nd most common video poker variation is Deuces Wild. This game plays almost exactly like Jacks or Better, but there's one big difference-all the 2s in the deck act as wild cards. This means they can stand in for any card you need to fill your hand. Since there are 4 of these cards in the deck, the difference in the value of your average final hand is significant.

Bonus Poker

I always thought it was funny that Bonus Poker was considered a different game from Jacks or Better. The differences are minimal in terms of gameplay. It's still a video poker game with no wild cards. The lowest-paying hand is still a pair of jacks or better. And it still pays off 800 to 1 for a royal flush.

In fact, the only difference between Bonus Poker and Jacks or Better is the payoffs for the 4 of a kind. And depending on the cards making up the 4 of a kind, you might get a much bigger payoff than you'd expect in Jacks or Better.

Double Bonus

Double Bonus Poker, along with Deuces Wild, is your best chance of finding a game where you can get an edge over the house at video poker. It's a small edge, though-smaller than full pay Deuces Wild, in fact. The payback percentage on Double Bonus Poker is 100.17% with the right pay table.

As you might have gathered from the game's name, Double Bonus Poker is most similar to Bonus Poker.

Video Poker Casino Apps

Video poker games have an ideal layout for mobile screens, which is why all the modern versions are compatible with the latest mobile devices.

You can play video poker on mobile in two ways — you can either log in to a casino account on your mobile browser or download the casino’s official app. Apps are ultimately better than mobile sites, as they provide a better user experience. However, to download and install an app, you will need to be located in one of the states where online gambling is regulated or use an app from a sweepstakes casino.

To download an app, simply go to the casino site you want to use on your mobile device and follow the prompts to get the app from there. Once you have downloaded and installed the app, open it up and log in or create an account to start playing.

Strategies and Tips to Play Video Poker Games

To select a successful video poker strategy, remember the video poker rules first. Also, utilize these points.

• Learn the basic video poker strategy or poker tells for improving your hand by strategizing well on your part.
• Know the Paytables: Different video poker machines have varying paytables, that indicate the payouts for different hand combinations. Familiarize yourself with the paytable of the specific machine you are playing, as this will impact which hands you should prioritize.
• When dealt the initial five cards, carefully assess your hand and decide which cards to keep and which to discard. As a general rule, hold on to strong hands such as higher pairs, three-of-a-kind, four-of-a-kind and cards that can make winning combinations. Discard unhelpful cards that do not contribute to any potential strong hand.
• Practice different variations of video poker games to improve your skills. This is important for beginner-level players and professional-level experts alike.
• It is best to play free video poker games for fun first before opting for real-money tournaments. Free video poker is good for improving the experience.
• Play with a Clear Mind. Like any casino game, it's essential to play video poker with a clear mind and avoid making impulsive decisions based on emotions. Stay focused on the strategies and maintain discipline in your gameplay.
• After gaining free online video poker skills, you can work with video poker machines with low pay table offers.
• Do not opt for pay tables with attractive deals during your first-time or early-level games.
• Start by playing with small amounts. Then try and slowly increase your profits.
