Telkom Knockout 2019 Soweto Derby Quarter-Final
The two giants of South African football, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, were drawn together in the last eight. This means that one of the teams will continue their drought for silverware. Both teams have gone over five years without a trophy. The last time Chiefs won a trophy was back in the 2013/2014 season when they lifted the league and cup double title, winning the MTN8 Cup. While the last time the Pirates won a trophy was in the same season, winning the Nedbank Cup.
Pirates vs Chiefs head-to-head history favours the Buccaneers to come out trumps in the tie. The Bucs last met their old rivals in the Carling Black Label Cup, defeating Amakhosi in a 2-0 victory. Chiefs will be buoyed by their recent form, defeating Cape Town City and retaining top position in the Premier Soccer League. Pirates won their match against Stellenbosch and will look resurrect their season.
